LASH EXTENSIONS and how they are changing my life and the world around me

I have beautiful long, dark, thick eyelashes. No, seriously; I do. They are there first thing in the morning, incongruously perfect in my otherwise sleep-rumpled face. At parties, people peer at them in disbelief. They draw gasps of admiration at work. At supper, a guest felt compelled to take a photograph of them on his iPhone. Even my fiance has noticed there’s something different about me.

Until relatively recently, false eyelashes were strictly for sad Sixties refugees. Now, largely thanks to Cole-mania (and, to an extent, the Katie Price effect, although the two looks could not be more polarised), big eyelashes are in.

Mine are no ordinary falsies. They are eyelash extensions. That means that each false lash is individually bonded to one of my own lashes, creating the most natural look possible. Provided I don’t rub my eyes or use oil-based make-up remover, I now use a Makeup Mandy eye makeup remover with no oil glycol or alcohol which by the way even without lashes I will use being it's safe on the eyes. the false lashes will stay stuck to my real ones until the latter fall out, which they do every four to six weeks.

I had mine done a couple of weeks ago by the lovely Mandy @ Makeup Mandy , The most wonderful thing about her is that she is a perfectionist. For her, it’s a matter of pride that every single lash be positioned exactly right, to maximum effect.

To begin with, the lashes felt rather odd. On the first night, I slept rather awkwardly, worried that if I stuffed my face into the pillow in my normal fashion, they would all fall off. They didn’t. For once, I had done as I was told, and not worn any eye shadow or got them wet (both things are crucial for the first 24 hours, until the glue has dried). The following morning, they looked, if anything, slightly better. A tiny bit dishevelled, but nothing a quick comb-through with a toothbrush couldn’t put right.

What’s really fantastic, though, is that I hardly need to wear make-up. Just the very fact of having thick, long lashes seems to make my face look fresher and perkier. They certainly don’t require any mascara, and it only takes the most cursory flick of black eyeliner to engage full party mode. The only problem now is that I’m totally addicted.

Eyebrow Threading a little history and some facts

Threading, one of the oldest methods of body hair removal, is popular in India and the Middle East. It is also used in some western beauty parlours. Threading involves rolling twisted cotton threads over untidy hairlines and plucking out the unwanted hair. One reason for its continued popularity is that it is so much healthier for the skin and doesn't result in ingrown hair

Threading is believed to have originated in Turkey. Called khite in Arabic and fatlah in Egypt, it is used for removing hair from the entire face, including the eyebrows, the upper lip, the chin and the cheeks. Beauty clinics in many countries, including India, employ skilled practitioners of this ancient art. In the West too some cosmetologists favor eyebrow threading over other methods.


Threading has several advantages over other methods. It is not only an inexpensive method of hair removal, but also fast and far less painful than some other options. It is a convenient method for removing hair from areas like the eyebrows and face and its effect lasts from two to four weeks. One of the best features of threading is that it is suitable for even skin that is too sensitive for laser hair removal or waxing. It takes no more than 15 minutes to get both brows done, which makes eyebrow threading particularly popular. And as no chemicals are involved there is no risk of a reaction setting in.

In threading the practitioner holds one end of a cotton thread between his teeth and the other in his left hand. Its middle part is looped through the index and middle fingers of the right hand, and the loop used to trap unwanted hair so that it can be easily plucked from the skin. There are well tried techniques that tell you how to do it right.

Though the threading method of hair removal is used mostly in the facial area, it also works on the body parts lower down - from the belly button to the pubic bone and the toes. But remember that threading is an intricate art that must be performed only by a skilled practitioner, and that it takes months to achieve proficiency. Nothing is more painful than threading perfomed by an inexpert hand.

Summer is a great time to get outside and rejuvenate your mind and body. But for your skin, summer means extra exposure to the sun, heat and sweat. This summer, give your skin a little TLC with these tips for healthy, refreshed skin.

It's never too early in the year to think about applying sunscreen. The sun's UV rays can damage your skin all year long. Even on a cloudy day, your skin can be exposed to up to 40 percent of the sun's UV rays [source: Skin Cancer Foundation]. Be sure to take the necessary precautions to keep your skin safe.

Choose a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) rating of at least 15 [source: Mann]. For those with lighter, fair skin, try a sunscreen with a rating of SPF 30. Apply your sunscreen 20 to 30 minutes before going outside. To be the most effective, sunscreen needs time to absorb into your skin.

You may not know there are many bikini waxing styles or types to choose from. Whether you want a little or a lot off, you can select the one that's best for you

Regular Bikini Wax: Removes the hair outside the panty line.

Full Bikini Wax: Takes the sides of the bikini line deeper than a regular bikini wax, and can also include waxing some hair on top to make a more defined ‘triangle’ area, or trimming down the hair left shorter.

When to choose: You still want to keep hair, but want more definition than a clean-up.

French Bikini Wax: Takes all hair off the in the front (except a small strip) and continues to right before the back. It doesn't take hair off from the back like a Brazilian (see below).

When to choose: You want the area basically pretty smooth with most hair removed, but don't want to take any hair away from your behind.

Brazilian Bikini Wax: Takes all hair off the bikini line, front all the way to the back (yes by your bum). Sometimes a small strip or triangle is left in the front.

When to choose: The perfect option if you wear a thong bikini, or want to be completely or almost hairless in front and back.

tips :Particularly for women. Your skin is often more sensitive the time near your your period, and waxing can be more painful than normal. So your appointment shouldn't be any closer than a couple of days before or after your period. Most places understandably won’t perform a Brazilian while you’re on your period.

Cleanliness. Shower and lightly exfoliate your entire bikini area right before your appointment using warm, not hot water. Make sure you’re extra clean.

Skip this step. Don’t use any lotions in bikini area.

Hair for now. You need some hair growth for the wax to hold onto, but not too long which can make the waxing hurt more than it needs to. Let the technician trim hair down to just the right length at your appointment, or follow the salon's specific instructions for trimming.

Pain preventers. Take an aspirin or Tylenol 30- 45 minutes before your appointment if you’re worried about pain.

post wax care :
Watch your fashion choices. Don’t wear tight panties for the next few days.

Hands off. Keep hands away from touching freshly waxed skin, as this can encourage irritation or small pimples.

Opt for a shower. Don’t take a hot bath for the rest of the day.

Too hot. No tanning beds, saunas or steam rooms for the next two days.

Short-term abstinence. Sexual activity should be avoided for at least 24 - 48 hours.

Exfoliate. Two full days later use a mild exfoliator. My pick, an Ayate washcloth which gently exfoliates skin alone wet, or can be used with your favorite body wash, but is more mold-resistant than loofahs. Compare Ayate washcloth prices.

THE WAITING LIST FOR SNAKE VENOM

In the UK they’re releasing a particular beauty product in the same way they might release a much anticipated film or book. Advance orders topped 100,000 after the Rodial company slipped samples of its Glamoxy Snake Serum to women such as Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham. Although it doesn’t hit stores until next week, Rodial began selling the snake venom earlier this week on their website.
The reason for all the hype? It promises to freeze muscles on the spot. Executives at Rodial claim it can be applied twice daily. The cream is designed to erase lines like no other product on the market. The Serum contains a neuropeptide that copies the effect a Viper’s venom has on its victims. Trials showed that after just 90 seconds wrinkles were less noticeable. So far the reviews have been stellar.
The price is about $250. It will come to America a few weeks later. A store called, Makeup Mandy in West Hollywood is expected to have it at the end of the month.
